Psychic Shielding: Protecting Your Psychic Energy

We are all psychic but to varying degrees. Even psychic skills face logical limitations; some people are just more sensitive, sensitive in different ways, and more talented than others.  Everyone can run, but some people run faster, longer, and with more grace than others.  With training, you can improve and maximize the psychic skills you have, just like improving your speed, endurance, and grace as a runner.

Sometimes psychic gifts remain dormant until a specific trigger moment, like a near-death experience, or they are found through concentrated efforts at meditation and mindfulness work.  There is also a wide range of talents, from simple intuition to channeling other entities to animal communication and on and on.

This article will offer methods for using psychic shields to protect your psychological integrity.

Psychic Health

We all have a tremendous amount of psychic energy we expend each day and it is important for us to take care of our psychological well-being as it is to take care of our physical well-being.  A strong psyche will help us endure challenging times and enjoy positive ones.  Our psychic health often gets worn down by our interactions in the daily world with other psyches that are decidedly unhealthy or even malicious. Unfortunately, most people go into and come out of life unshielded, which can lead to depression, anxiety, psychically induced illness, and extreme tiredness.

Type of Psychic Shields

A psychic shield is something we can consciously “put on” each and every day to keep our mental health vibrant and strong.  There are several different ways to shield and I want to share those methods with you.


Most of us wake up and basically start our day.  We put on clothes, make our bed, and implement our various routines before we go off to work or start parenting our children.  Rarely do we take a meditative moment to “raise our shields” before we engage in our day.  Meditation can be a short or long moment, depending on your purpose and your constraints.

A meditation for shielding, whether you choose to do it the moment you are fully awake but not out of bed, or when your feet hit the floor, or the pause before you engage anyone else, in your household or out in the world, is an intentional moment where you tell your mind and spirit to be ready for the day and to stay protected.

One of the simplest but very effective meditations is to imagine a ball of light above your head that you will open up to encompass your entire body.  You will imagine and “see” the light cover you entirely before “settling” into your psychic aura.  The light is often white but can be another color if you wish a particular type of shielding which may have to do with the challenges you know you have in front of you.

Perhaps you have a difficult conversation coming up and want to shield yourself with red light for energy and confidence.  Maybe you plan to ask someone special out and want blue light to help you navigate the tides of emotion and withstand a possible rejection.  Yellow can shield you against dark thoughts from others and within yourself.  But since white is all colors, it is often the “go-to” light for protection.

Energy Movement with the Body

Perhaps you struggle to meditate or simply do not prefer that method of spiritual action for protection.  If so, you can always do body moments to set a protective field around you.  Donna Eden is one of the best practitioners of this art, and her book, Energy Medicine, offers a number of movement techniques for health, healing, and protection.

I use one of her techniques weekly.  It is a motion of pulling energy in from the solar system to push down into the earth, which you do by placing your arms at your side, rotating your palms so they are open and outward as you raise your hands up from your side and out over your head and then back down in front of your body.  If you relax and feel, you will notice the energy in your hands increase as you cycle your hands around push the energy through your body field and into the ground.

I repeat the motion three times, then reverse the motion by pulling energy up from the earth to send out into the solar system.  As the energy comes down from the sky and up from the earth, my energy field is strengthened and grounded.  It is a motion you can do any time of the day and I have found it particularly helpful when I feel anxious.


Another tried and true technique is done by charging an object with protective psychic energy or having it display a protective symbol.  Rings, bracelets, and necklaces are the most common objects that can function as talismans.  Essentially, you want to charge these items or have them charged by a spiritual practitioner to wear for protection when you go out in the world.

Various stones and gems provide protection naturally, but even they need to be cleansed and charged regularly.  Psychic cleansing can be done with a saline solution, immersion in salt, or a white sage smudge spray.  Stones can be charged and recharged using citrine or by being placed in soil for 24 hours.  Psychic Protection Crystals: The Modern Guide to Psychic Self Defense With Crystals For Empaths And Highly Sensitive People by Ethan Lazzerini is a good reference book.

Besides the stone or crystals themselves and the process to charge and psychically imbue the object, there are numerous protection symbols one can choose from various cultures and religions.  Mainly, you want to make sure that you go out into the world with your talisman on your person, and usually, it is best if it can touch your skin, so wearing a necklace on the inside is more effective than having it on display outside your clothes.

Testable Actions

You can choose to implement any or all of the methods above and you will either notice clear results or you will not.  Just imagine going into your next stressful situation, like a visit to a difficult family member, or painfully, just getting up and going to work.  Try implementing a psychic shield and see if you have better energy in the challenging moment and at the end of the day.
