As you can see, my Mars was in the sign of Taurus when I was born.
Each point is elemental, and rules a sign and house in the Zodiac. Mars used to rule two elements and houses before Pluto was discovered, and eventually took over rulership of Scorpio (a water sign) and the 8th House. Now, Mars only rules Aries.
In modern astrology it is a fire point, which rules Aries and the 1st House. Fire represents action; Aries rules survival, individuality, and initiative; and the 1st House rules identity, how others see you, and self-actualization.
