About Psychic abilities and power

We are all psychic, but to varying degrees. Even psychic skills face logical limitations; some people are just more sensitive, sensitive in different ways, and more talented than others. Everyone can run, but some people run faster, longer, and with more grace than others. With training you can improve and maximize the psychic skills you have, just like improving your speed, endurance, and grace as a runner.

Sometimes psychic gifts remain dormant until a specific trigger moment, like a near death experience, or they are unlocked through concentrated efforts at meditation and mindfulness work. There are also a wide range of talents, from simple intuition to channeling other entities. This section of the AskAstrology website explores and explains different psychic reading skills.

What is Astral Projection?

Astral projection is an intentional out-of-body experience by which you separate from the physical body to travel outside it to enhance your psychic and spiritual awareness. To achieve astral projection, you recognize that you have an etheric double which is anchored to your physical being. When you astral project, you disengage your etheric self from your physical self.

How to Astral Project?

This psychic skill is not easy to achieve or maintain. Very rarely do people “just” astral project. It can take months of repeated, meditative effort to detach the etheric self from the physical self. Much of psychic work begins with opening the mind to possibilities beyond the limits of three-dimensional reality and develops with consistent effort and practice.

One technique for developing the skill can be done by getting into meditative space and seeing yourself peel or pull out of your body. Here’s one way of approaching the process.

Get in a quiet space in your room; your bedroom works well, but you can use a couch or a comfortable chair. This example will have you lying on your bed. Lay on your bed with your arms at your side and your palms facing down on the bed. Do not you use a pillow for you head, just lie flat on the bed.

Work to regulate your breathing into a steady rhythm. You can use sound, so long is has a repeating pattern. Feel your body; let your breathing deepen you into your body. Now imagine your body as a shell or container. At the tips of your fingers you can feel the bed covering. Try something as simple as lifting one finger without moving the finger.

You want to try to feel the nail on top of your finger as if you were brushing the nail with the tip of the finger the nail is actually on. If you can achieve this awareness, you will be moving your etheric self outside your physical self. Do not be surprised if it takes days or weeks to get this small task done. You are talking about detaching yourself from the material substance that anchors you in this world.

Once you get your finger “up and out”, start working to pull out your entire hand so you can brush the top of the hand itself. Eventually, you want to “sit up” outside yourself and work towards completely disengaging from your physical body. Once outside, you want to take just a moment to pause, then allow yourself to “fall” back into your body. Getting back in is as important as learning to get out.

Benefits and Pitfalls of Astral Projection

Like any psychic skill there can be important benefits and valid concerns (or pitfalls) to the practice. One benefit of the process is the full awareness of your soul, as it has been shaped and defined by this physical incarnation. Projecting as an etheric self that mirrors your physical appearance makes it easier to return to your physical self. But, in truth, you are a being of energy, so shape is a construct.

If you are able to achieve basic astral projection, which means just getting outside of yourself but not traveling any distance away, you may find that you can dream lucidly the next time you enter the dream state. The dream state is a bridge between three-dimensional interactions and other dimensional interactions. Astral projection will allow you to see the dream state consciously.

There is a reason it takes tremendous effort to astral project. You are here to have an incarnated experience and be fully invested in that experience. You do not want to become untethered from your physical self for too long; otherwise, you may have trouble “re-entering” reality even if you are back in your body.

Just like exploring unknown territory, it is a safe and good practice to limit your projection time and distance so you can slowly build your ability to stay out of the body longer and over greater distances. This psychic skill, once achieved, will alter your perception of reality, which, like so many talents, can be both a positive or negative experience depending on how you use it.

Flying, Passing through Walls, and Travel

At the beginning stages of astral projection, you will still respond to physical limitations. You will feel the astral self as you feel the physical self, but these feelings are just thought patterns that can now be challenged with the astral self. The first challenge you can attempt to overcome is gravity. Once outside your body, look up to the ceiling in the room and reach out.

As you do so, think about rising to touch the ceiling. You only have weight in your mind now, but not physically any more. If you can let go of “gravity thought”, you will feel your hand “bump” against or touch the ceiling; you will even be able to feel the ceiling texture.

As stated before, work carefully and slowly with the skill. Move around the confines of your room, turn yourself upside down. Once you master the space around your resting body, approach a wall and push your hand through it. Relax into the idea that the etheric self can pass through the molecules of the wall.

Once you feel comfortable with this effort, try pushing your head through and looking at what is on the other side, another room, or the outside world. And, always return to your body after each new effort so you can return with just a thought.

As you build experience, you can begin to travel greater distances and eventually recognize that this dimension or realm is but one of many. In your etheric form, you can go beyond this world and into other dimensions of thought and experience, which we all do when we dream. With astral projection you can make those journeys intentionally.
