Have You Ever thought about a Moon Journal?

You know the importance of journaling as it is a therapeutic way to express your feelings by writing everything you need to in an uncensored way. Therapists recommend that you journal for this reason daily. However, when it comes to journaling, you may think of getting a notebook and writing down everything on your mind to feel as if you have gotten anything stressing you off your chest. That type of journaling is one of many ways to do so. You can connect within yourself more profoundly, on a soul level, through moon journaling.

What is Moon Journaling?

Suppose you do not know what moon journaling is. In that case, you will be in for a treat because this type of journaling is a beautiful way to connect with yourself on a soul level by following your feelings, levels of motivation, and other emotions you are experiencing based on all of the moon phases. Moon journaling also helps you work with the Universe to be at your best and work at your best.

Like the moon phases, you go through different cycles, which you can compare to the moon cycles. If you are feeling down and doubtful and struggling with motivation, you can see a correlation between a moon phase and you feeling this way. Therefore, you will understand why you suddenly feel so low while in much better spirits the other day.

The moon in astrology represents your emotions and anything personal to you, such as your values, fears, and dreams. It can also represent your sleep cycles. It has everything to do with your mood, so since it is involved in any form of journaling, you will gain a more profound understanding of your moods when you are moon journaling. Like the moon phases keep evolving and changing, so does your mood. When getting the right moon journal, you can get any type of notebook. You can buy moon journals from Etsy or Amazon if you prefer to make it more official and don’t mind spending the money. Let’s delve into the meaning of each moon phase before discussing how you can use moon journaling to make the most of it.

What Are the Moon Phases?

If you look at all of the moon phases each month, there are eight. They are the New Moon and the Waxing Crescent Moon, the First Quarter Moon, the Waxing Gibbous Moon, the Full Moon, the Waning Gibbous Moon, the Third Quarter Moon, and the Waning Crescent Moon. Some moon journal experts say it is ideal to focus on the four main moon phases: the New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Last Quarter because they impact your moods and sleeping cycles the most. However, each of the eight moon phases does impact you on some level. It is entirely up to you to journal the moon during each moon phase or the primary four phases. Let’s now discuss each moon phase in detail, how they affect you on an emotional level, and how they affect your sleep.

The New Moon

The New Moon is the beginning of a lunar cycle, and you will not see the moon as it is conjunct with the sun, which makes it the darkest phase. The gravitational pull of the New Moon affects you in a way where you will desire to create new beginnings, as it is a great opportunity to manifest anything. You can set the intention to accomplish any goal you have in mind during this phase, whether it is a long-term or short-term goal, and it can be as simple as setting the intention to create better habits. You want to write that in your journal during the New Moon. The next is the Waxing Crescent Moon.

The Waxing Crescent Moon

With the Waxing Crescent Moon, you see some illumination of the moon happening, and it appears as a crescent-like sliver, and you will see it several days after the New Moon. Once you have set your intentions with the New Moon, this is the time to do more envisioning with the manifestations you want to see turn into reality and thank the Universe in advance for them. Write in your journal the steps you plan to make your manifestation materialize during this phase. Write down affirmations that are true to you to help you keep manifesting them. Then, you will get ready to journal for when the First Quarter Moon comes.

The First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon comes a few days after the Waxing Crescent Moon, approximately a week after the New Moon. The moon is around 90 degrees to the sun, and half of the moon is lit up on the right side. During this time, your manifestations are beginning to show up, as this is a time when you will feel energized and excited.

Write down in your journal how your manifestations are beginning to take place and how you feel about them. Are you excited, scared, frustrated, or happy about what is starting to show up? Note it. And this is the time to write down more about other action steps to help it manifest quicker or more straightforwardly. The next phase is the Waxing Gibbous Moon.

The Waxing Gibbous Moon

The Waxing Gibbous Moon happens a few days after the First Quarter Moon, and about three-quarters of the moon is illuminated as it is nearing the Full Moon. This phase marks the adjustments you need to make in your life, and you may find that what you manifest is being challenged, and you may find yourself being impatient and frustrated at this time.

Sometimes, the planned action steps may not work as well as you hoped. That is okay, as you will want to note it in your moon journal about how you are feeling. Pay attention to the signs from the Universe pointing toward you to take the best action going forward. Connect with your inner wisdom, and draw some tarot cards to help guide you on what to do going forward so you have a better plan of action in place by the Full Moon.

The Full Moon

The Full Moon is when the entire moon is lit up, as the sun and moon oppose one another, 180 degrees apart. The Full Moon happens around a week after the First Quarter Moon and two weeks after the New Moon. That is when you harvest the seeds you planted during the New Moon.

You will be feeling so many feelings at this time, and you may find that you could struggle to sleep during the Full Moon, or you may sleep very well. It is essential to write down in your moon journal what has manifested, how you are feeling, and express gratitude for what you have received so far; it is also a time to do shadow work, which means to work on areas of yourself that need improvement. It is a potent moon phase; the next is the Waning Gibbous.

The Waning Gibbous

The Waning Gibbous Moon occurs around a few days after the Full Moon, and the illuminated area of the moon is beginning to decrease, as it is around 75 percent illuminated now. It is a time to slow down, and it is a time to connect with your friends and family whom you have not talked to in some time (unless they are estranged); you must do this if you are upset with them during the high energy of the Full Moon. In your moon journal, you will want to write how you feel during this phase and what steps you will take for self-care. The next phase is the Third Quarter Moon.

The Third Quarter Moon

The Third Quarter Moon happens a few days after the Waning Gibbous as the sun and earth are away from one another by 90 degrees, and you will see the illumination of half of the moon on the left side. It is a time to cleanse and let go, which means it is a time to release what no longer serves you. It is a time to clear your mind, clean your closet, and remove any items you no longer need or want by donating them or tossing them away. Write in your moon journal about the things you no longer need or want that are not serving you, how you feel about them, and what it feels like to release them.

You may get emotional at this time because even if you no longer need or want something, you can get teary-eyed when you think about it. It depends on what it is, or you may be happy that you can release something that may have been burdensome to you.  If you have been thinking of letting go of a toxic friendship or cutting ties with a bad relationship, this is the perfect time to do that, too. Let’s talk about the last moon phase of the cycle, the Waning Crescent.

The Waning Crescent Moon

The Waning Crescent Moon happens a few days after the Third Quarter Moon, and you only see a sliver of light as the sun and the moon are close in conjunction with one another, as it happens days before the next new lunar cycle. This is a time for rest and recharging, as it is the time to relax and indulge in self-care. Take out your moon journal and note how you will recharge your relaxing plans, whether unwinding while reading a good book with tea or taking a walk in the park. Don’t worry about your new intentions for the new lunar cycle until it is the New Moon again in a few days. This is the time to relax so you have the energy for that later. Those are all lunar phases; you should know how often to write in your moon journal.

How Often Should You Write In Your Moon Journal?

How often you write in your moon journal is up to you! Suppose you want to make the most of your moon journaling experience. In that case, you will write in it every three to four days when the moon moves into each phase, as you will cover your intentions, your plans of action to make your intentions manifest, how you are feeling, the results of your actions, and how you are releasing energies and anything that no longer serves you towards the end of the lunar cycle. That way, you can connect yourself with the moon phases, which can help with your manifestation goals, get in touch with your feelings by reflecting on them, and take care of your needs by releasing what no longer serves you.

However, if you don’t have the time to write every few days in your moon journal, you can focus on writing in your moon journal during the four main moon phases, which are the New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Third Quater, which takes place once a week.

Summary of the Purpose of Moon Journaling

Moon journaling allows you to write anything that aligns with the moon phases, as when it is the New Moon, you will write down your intentions and what you want to manifest. It can be as minor as making a to-do list, or you want to work on changing a habit. That is what you write during the Full Moon. When it is the Waxing Crescent Moon, if you choose to write in your moon journal during that time, you will write more about how you act on what you manifest and reflect on your feelings. When it is the First Quarter Moon, write down how you are feeling and make note of any signs of your manifestations starting to show up. When it is the Waxing Gibbous Moon, write down the frustrations you are feeling now, reflect on those feelings, and write down any obstacles you are facing and any change in plans of action you want to make.

When it is the Full Moon, write down what you have successfully manifested your feelings about it, reflect on your feelings as you may be pretty emotional, and also what changes you can make for next time. When it is the Waning Gibbous, write down in your moon journal, if you choose, about how you will indulge in self-care, as that is a crucial thing to do during this phase. When it is the Third Quarter Moon, this is a time to purge what no longer serves you. Note that in your moon journal and your feelings around it. Finally, when it is the Waning Crescent Moon, this is the time to relax so you can use your energy for the next lunar cycle commencement. And you can write how you plan to relax in your moon journal and reflect on your feelings about the previous lunar cycle. Write about your intentions when it is the New Moon again. Once you are used to moon journaling, you will love it!
