Coronavirus 10-Card Reading Part 3

Exploring the Coronavirus with a 10-Card Reading – Part 3

Tarot cards are excellent tools for insight and revelation.  As a professional reader, I work with clients on a weekly basis, doing readings to help them navigate life.  With so much happening with regard to the outbreak of COVID-19, I thought it would be helpful to do a tarot reading about COVID-19 for the AskAstrology readership.

This is the third reading; Ask Astrology published the first one on March 9, 2020, and the second one on May 16, 2020.

The Question, the Method, and the Spread

The question I asked again was, “what do the visitors to Ask Astrology need to know about the COVID-19 coronavirus?”  I have over 75 decks in my tarot and oracle card collection and I chose to use the Law of Attraction Tarot by Lo Scarabeo.

When I do a reading for a client, I ask them questions for each card draw.  For this reading, I decided to select 10 cards.  The layout I chose was the traditional Celtic Cross, shown below:

Question 1: What Does the Readership Need to Know Right Now

The card selected is the Ace of Coins:

Rather appropriately we see the caduceus, the staff of Hermes, the messenger God, which is a symbol of communication and the exchange of information.  By extension, it also represents trades, occupations, commerce, and travel-related to trade.  In tarot, this card marks new beginnings in the world, practical first steps for new endeavors, and the entrepreneurial spirit.  Basically, the virus demands new ways of doing and acting.

Question 2: What is the Challenge We Need to be Aware of?

The card selected is The World (XXI):

It is very interesting that the challenge card to the Ace of Coins new beginning energy is the conclusion of a major life cycle.  The World is the next to the last card in the cycle of the Major Arcana and the Fool’s Journey.  It is the Fool card that is both the first and last card of the cycle.

The selection of the World card indicates a major completion, shown by the last puzzle piece being placed in the corner to complete the picture.  We are leaving behind the world prior to 2019 to move in the direction of a new world for 2021.  2020 is the movement of the piece off the table separated from the puzzle into its final fitting place as part of the puzzle.

Question 3: What is Obvious?

The card selected is Temperance (XIV):

In this scene, nude women are bathing and cleansing themselves.  There is a ritual energy, shown by the way the woman stands before the water in a position of open supplication and readiness to be cleansed physically and spiritually by the falling water.  It is obvious that calm acceptance will serve us better than panic or anger or denial.  Also, the card reminds us that prayer is a powerful tool in our psychological and spiritual toolbox when facing a crisis.

Question 4: What is Hidden?

The card selected is the 8 of Cups:

Here we see dice thrown into the air, with the number 11 facing forward.  This number is not the dice at rest, but “up in the air”.  We know we want a “winning” number, and it is possible the final settling of the dice will be this number, but it also possible it could be a losing number in the game of chance.

Basically, everything is very much “up in the air” and we are at the mercy of the “dice roll”.  As important as the outcome is, the “bet” before the roll is just as meaningful.  Were you betting on life without a disaster plan or did you bet in such a way that you would not lose everything if the roll comes up “snake eyes” (two 1s).

Question 5: What Do We Need to Know from the Past to Help Us in the Present?

The card selected is 7 of Cups:

Without a doubt, we have, as humanity, met many situations where we hoped we could gaze into a crystal ball and see answers for the future that would help us deal with the present.  If we look back at major shocks to humanity, can we see any ideas, mistakes, or successes that will help us now, as we face the current pandemic?

Question 6: What Do We Need to Know for Guidance Going Forward?

The card selected is the 6 of Cups:

The giant hourglass reminds us that certain events and situations have their own timing and will unfold at a certain pace regardless of our actions.  While the card can represent the “eventuality” of circumstances and the need to be patient, it also represents the right timing for the right action.

The virus is going to spread and many of the current actions are about “buying time”, not actually stopping the virus.  We need to think of solutions that accept the inevitability of the virus spread while trying to “contain” it is a process that slows it down to a manageable action that will allow society to keep thriving.

Question 7: What is the Purpose of this Virus, Spiritually Speaking?

The card selected is the Wheel of Fortune (X):

The Wheel of Fortune continually teaches us how we choose to respond to situations outside our control.  This pandemic will reveal the limits of our policies, behaviors, culture, and definition of reality.  How we choose to respond is the crucial spiritual action we each must address. Much of what happens in the world passes by us, not so with this virus and its impact.

Question 8: How Do We Fulfill the Purpose Positively?

The card selected is the Knight of Coins:

We all need to do our own research and not rely on being fed information, regardless of the expertise or political agenda of the source.  Only by educating ourselves to a much deeper degree about what a virus is, how they can be transmitted, and what this one is and how it is transmitted, can we best protect ourselves and our loved ones.  We need to understand how our society works, really works, with regard to business, trade, government agencies, health care, and interpersonal dynamics.  Instead of trying to escape for an hour or two into a movie or book, decide to learn something new and do research for an hour or two.

Question 9: What are our Hopes and Fears?

The card selected is the 4 of Scrolls:

Both the hope and fear aspect of this card should be apparent.  We hope for a sunny day or outcome, a return to a happy normal, where we can enjoy our days out in the world.  We fear such possibilities may not materialize, either for us as individuals or the world at large, for quite some time ahead.

Question 10: What is an Action to Consider Taking at this Time?

The card selected is the 3 o Scrolls:

The farmer spreads seed for a new crop.  All life is cycles, even a global change such as this one is part of a cycle.  Knowing that endings provide the potential for fertile beginnings, what “seeds” need to be planted at this time.  They may not all germinate, but the more we spread the seeds, especially if we have turned and cared for the soil, the more likely we will get a good crop.
