Update on COVID-19 with Horary Astrology – Part 5

There is a branch of astrology known as Horary Astrology.  The process involves asking a specific question and casting a chart for the moment of the question.  The chart provides the answer.  The question I asked for this article on July 24, 2020, at 08:12:23 in Durham, North Carolina was, “what do the readers visiting Ask Astrology need to know about COVID-19?”  This article provides the answer.

COVID-19, What We Need to Know Now

The world is changing faster than it ever has in recorded history.  In fact, the pandemic continues to cause situations that are truly unprecedented.  It has been far too common to use the word “unprecedented” as hyperbole because life in much of the world has been mostly stable, and even the instability stayed within certain boundaries.  Not so anymore.

We are all looking for insights and answers, critical viewpoints that help, and knowledge that syncs with reality, and not wild speculation.  Astrology provides a practical and spiritual interpretation of events in terms of energy and timing.  One tried and true practice in astrology casts charts for specific questions at the time the question gets asked; this practice is Horary astrology.  I employed this technique and asked the question, “what do readers visiting Ask Astrology need to know about COVID-19?”

The Answers

Each month new astrological dynamics from the faster moving inner points (Sun to Mars) interact with the slower moving points (Jupiter to Pluto).  The horary snapshot answers our question in a certain way, giving us insight into the way we understand an event or person.  Because of the time and location of the question, the house system will represent the issues of the moment in those areas of life-related to the question.  We will begin at the 1^st House and make our way around the chart.

1^st House of Identity

The heart (Sun) of the matter resides in this house, indicating that we need to find our “heroic” identity regarding this crisis.  In times of extreme stress, we get our character tested.  At its best, Leo is positive energy, sharing its joy and enthusiasm in the darkest of times.  What can each of us do to be positive for ourselves and others?  If we need leadership from others, what kind of leaders do we want to follow?

2^nd House of Resources (Security)

The soul (Moon) of the matter resides in this house, which is ruled by Virgo.  Virgo is practical, methodical, and a sign associated with health and healing.  At a soul level, we need to understand the need (2^nd House) to be frugal, helpful to others, and graciously accepting help (if we need it). While the Sun is trying to be upbeat and lead, the Moon, and our emotions, need to be very realistic and practical.

3^rd House of Communication (Information)

No points occupy this house, which is ruled by Libra.  When a house is empty, the energy it contains waits to respond.  More generally our understanding of the law and rules (Libra) will either help us or need to be changed, but we will not be able to act, as much as we will have to react (for the time being).

4^th House of Family (Inner Self)

No points occupy this house, either, which is ruled by Scorpio.  Deep personal change is happening thanks to this pandemic.  What the change means for each of us at the most personal level will be a matter of reaction, not action.  In time, all of us will be touched by death and rebirth energy related to the actions of the virus and its ongoing spread.

5^th House of Children and Creativity

Rather appropriately, the South Node sits in this house.  Commonly the South Node resists change and wants to follow well-worn patterns, even if they are detrimental.  In Sagittarius, this means patterns of belief that we expect to shape and sustain reality.  Unfortunately, at the time of this casting, the US is battling issues around reopening schools.  The South Node here shows that the old authority and approach will be of little use or help.

6^th House of Service (Health)

Three points occupy this house: Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto; and Capricorn rules it.  All three points are retrograde, so day-to-day life will continue to “suffer the consequences” (Capricorn).  Retrograde Jupiter indicates contraction or losses, especially work/financial ones as it moves through Capricorn.  Pluto continues to upheave all major systems, which can be felt at every level of day-to-day life (6^th House).  Saturn, the auditor, is testing every aspect of everyday life, trying to determine what will be able to stay, what will be eliminated, and how new opportunities will get established.

7^th House of Partnership (and the Law)

This house is also empty.  Indicating another area of life that is “waiting to respond” to the activity of the virus.  Relationships remain disrupted and legal issues are dramatically reshaping during this period.  The primary focus is identity, resources, and day-to-day work.  Aquarius rulership of the house indicates a need to revolutionize our relationships and laws, which will happen as a matter of course.

8^th House of Intimacy and Shared Resources

Neptune, the dissolver, is here, and retrograde. It has been in Pisces, the sign it rules, since 2010.  All things spiritual receive our focus during this transit: spiritual awakenings, spiritual crisis, and spiritual mysteries abound.  Neptune’s placement also indicates a place in our lives where must surrender and accept.  What we thought “was” in regard to our closest relationships and how we are bound together has been in a fog for 10 years; we must “just keep swimming” and wait for the fog to lift … in 2026.

9^th House of Mastership and Authority

Chiron and Mars occupy this house, in Aries.  Chiron is retrograde.  We continue to suffer wounds related to expert knowledge (being denied) and authority (being inconsistent), but we definitely want action (Mars).  This combination is difficult because it shows conflict still present related to how we view authority figures in the face of the pandemic.

10^th House of Prosperity

Uranus is a shock anywhere it transits.  And the 10^th House represents large institutions as well as the individual success that leads to prosperity through career.  Unemployment continues to soar at record numbers and education is getting ready to experience additional shocks that will like to rewrite the institutions in many unexpected (Uranian) ways.  New visions will have the chance to emerge; after all, necessity is the mother of invention.

11^th House of Community

The North Node and Venus share this house, in Gemini.  New ways of relating, communicating, and networking (Venus) will be necessary.  We will have to let go of the old philosophies (South Node in Sagittarius), and embrace new ways of seeing and living in a community.  The air energy of Gemini supports technological solutions, greater knowledge, and willingness to be open-minded.

12^th House of Spirituality

Mercury is in Cancer here, so there is a need for widespread communication that addresses people’s emotional needs.  We are literally all in this together in a way that has not existed before.  Cancer takes the caring, nurturing view, and so the virus is waking up the entire planet (12^th House) to concerns about how we care or do not care for others.

Conclusion

The virus is still spreading and, astrologically, will be long term, persistent, and do more to reshape the fabric of society than any human-driven actions or philosophies.  We need to think about who we depend on and support in this crisis and how our understanding of civilization is rapidly changing.
